Our First Picture as Mentor Mentee at Reveal

It’s been a whole year since I became a member of the Florida Cicerones and that means a whole year of Mentor and Mentee-ness! Tonight I get to reveal myself to my mentee Justin as well as welcome a little bro Rohan, and a grand niece Aynesse. I’m so excited to expand our family. There have been some major changes in 2011 but we’ve embraced them like champs. Here’s to our epic year.

Our Latest Picture as Mentor Mentee at the Black and White Characters Found Party

As part of your gift you get to read this blog that I’ve been working on for months trying to recall everything we’ve done. Well not everything. I hope you get a couple of laughs while remembering some of this stuff. Start at the bottom because that’s where it all begins!

We did other things this summer… We watched Shutter Island, which sucked and we boycotted Leo for a good two weeks before we gave in to Inception. Forces were strong against us seeing that movie because we traveled to three different theatres in order to see it.

With work and classes and Cicerone exec stuff the end of the summer came and went and fall rolled in.

Fall retreat came around and I think the highlight of that was my justin beiber shirt and zip lining backwards. I was all tough climbing up the rope ladder but for some reason, although we both have seen the promise land of ziplines (Nicaragua) I was really scared when I couldn’t see the direction I would have to force my body to go in. I did it though and it was a huge adrenaline rush!

The last day of Fall Retreat

-We went to Reggae Shack… I ordered the Oxtail, Mentor had some kind of sandwich. It was good but a bit pricey. But you know me, I made sure to make mine two meals!

- Had Chicken Pasta and played the Wii. So I threw some stuff together and made a great chicken pasta casserole thing. Mentor and Shayla took part. Then there was delicious store bought hershey’s chocolate cream pie for dessert. We played the Wii and somehow the smallest person (Shayla) was the best at boxing. I guess I shouldn’t underestimate her guns! Mentor gave us pointers on golf.  

- Watched 4 Christmases and tried Red Mango. Red Mango didn’t dissapoint. Not sure if its better than Mochi though. Might be more expensive. I think 4 Christmases is hilarious. Mentor thought it was “cute.” I definitely wouldn’t mind Vince Vaughn being my neighbor.

- Had lunch at Copper Monkey… Food was dece. Talked about geniology.

- I finally Started work. I’ve seen mentor twice there. <s>Lucky</s>  for us we have opposite shifts. He works mornings and I work afternoons. I’m sure if I actually had work to do then I would appreciate this. But I don’t. SMH.

I think that’s it so far. Still haven’t taught him how to cook yet. I think that since he enjoyed the chicken pasta so much I’ll teach him how to make that.

It’s been a pretty good summer so far. Lots of confusion on my part with the whole, you know, “growing up” thing. I don’t know what I want to do now. Waaaaahhhhh

My basket contained: spaghetti noodles, pasta sauce, peanut m and ms, juice boxes, a letter, and a coupon for one free cooking lesson from mentee to mentor. I thought it was clever.

Mentor loved it! And so he will learn to make my spaghetti over the summer and possibly help me refine my skills when it comes to operating a motor vehicle.

Oh yea, I won the Cicerone Scholarship and I GOT THE COMMUNITY SERVICE CO-CHAIR POSITION!!!!!!!!!!!! SO EXCITED!!!! I LOVE THE FLORIDA CICERONES. I THINK THESE PEOPLE BELIEVE IN ME!  THAT FEELING of respect and encouragement is unmatched in any other thing I’ve been involved in.

My ulcer that I was convinced had been growing inside me by keeping this facade going, had finally subsided. The truth did set me free. I still felt bad for the rest of the day though.

6 days later, we’re all made up now.

This morning while brushing my teeth I began to think of something EPIC!

HOW COULD I PRANK MY MENTOR FOR APRIL FOOL’S DAY?????

I decided to text him… here’s the exact text:

OMG mentor. I am freaking out right now. Karsten just called me really mad and apparently I signed up for a tour this morning but with Skee Week and everything I forgot to write it in my agenda… so I missed this tour at 8 am this morning. Omg what do I do? Am I getting kicked out? I’m sooooooooooooooo sorry.

He called me back around 30 minutes later. I was so good on the phone with my fake hyperventilating, frustrated sounding voice, I sounded like I was on the verge of tears as well. He kept trying to calm me down… then I began to get irrational… I was all….

“omg now you’re president, I feel like I let you down. I’m a horrible mentee. I waited three years for this and now it’s over…. Omg I think I’m going to throw up…. I’m an AKA I need to be ON POINT… I let you down…”

Lol I could have gotten an Oscar for that award winning performance!!!!!

All he could say was “it’s going to be okay. You’ve had a stressful week. Breathe. Don’t throw up. It’s going to be okay. We’ll figure it out.”

Lol But I really think he was secretly crapping his pants.

I will reveal the truth to him sometime today. Don’t know what his reaction will be though. Hope he doesn’t get too mad.

Actually I doubt there was any laughter. We didn’t know what to expect from this trip. So we sat around until others came.

I remember somewhere in there I introduced myself, and my mentor came up with the nickname Tubby for me. But as always it was FOWLER who followed through.

Here’s our first pic together ever… can you tell this was taken in Nicaragua? Where it’s super hot, and taxis are in high demand but low supply.
